Our Themes are Based on God's Creation

Two of the basic foundations of the Montessori method are reality and truth. The child must rely on these to truly understand and function in the world in which he/she lives everyday. So I believe that reality and truth are best taught through our Creator and all of His amazing creations. What better way to capture a child's attention but by presenting them with these lessons about our world that can be integrated into all of the areas of the Montessori classroom and home again. They encounter each of these creations everywhere they go day and night. By gaining a better understanding about the world they live in and their creator, children at a young age begin to understand what their purpose is and how very important they really are.

In Addition to the other lessons in the Montessori classroom these creation themes are lessons that I have been teaching for many years and have found that the children interalize them easily and carry the information with them for years and years. I teach the lessons to all the children in a group setting as we sit together for our daily line time. I have based these lessons around the 6 days of creation. We follow the days in order, presenting lessons once or twice a week until the concepts are presented for that category, then the next one is introduced, one building on another The order that God created the world was intentional, each one dependant upon the previous one to survive. That idea is also presented and discussed as we go along.

Each lesson may be a little different from year to year. Either expanding on the lesson from last year or introducing a totally diffent aspect about that subject this year. So when we talk about light or water or land, there may be attributes about those we didn't cover the year before like magnitism, refraction, reflection, volcanoes, land forms, habitats, weather etc.

Each theme is about 4 to 6 weeks on one subject. Concepts are introduced using visual, auditory or tactile demonstratons when possible. Exercises pertaining to a concept are then placed on the shelf to further incorporate the theme as a hands on independent learning experience for the child. Fun question games are played on the last day to reinforce concepts taught earlier in the week or month. This way I can see what was internalized.

Montessori in the Home: An interactive workshop for Parents

What's it all about?
"Montessori in the Home" is an interactive full day workshop for parents of preschool children ages birth to six years that wish to expand their knowledge of the Montessori method and implement it into their home. This intimate workshop of 12 to 14 students is designed to help the adult understand how children ages birth to six years assimilate the whole environment through the senses, internalize it and learn from it. Their environment would include; The adult and the physical environment and how they depend on both to develop themselves.

What will I be doing all day?
The adult is guided through a morning of lecture on the basics of the Montessori philosophy as it pertains to the adult and the child with open discussion and observation of a live working class. The afternoon will be spent on developing the physical environment for the home using hands on organizing, creating and understanding the importance of a prepared environment.

What will I hope to accomplish?
Upon completion you will have a basic understanding of the Montessori Philosophy as it pertains to you and your child. You will also learn the basics for setting up a home environment that will allow child directed learning to flourish!

Why a Three Year Age Span?

In the multi-age setting, the children learn from each other, and they learn because of each other. Younger children get a chance to look ahead and see what is coming next by watching the older children. Older children have the opportunity to reinforce their knowledge by sharing it with younger children.

What Curriculum Does a Montessori Pre-School Use?

The Montessori environment is divided into distinct areas of:

* Practical Life
* Sensorial
* Math
* Language
* Geography
* Science
* Art / Sewing

Although these areas represent the parts of the curriculum, it is important to remember that no subject is taught in isolation. The environment is interdisciplinary and interactive.
Group lessons, music and movement are also included in the child’s daily routine.

TUITION: $300/month (3 day week)
$200/month (2 day week)

* Tuition is based on a rate of $8.00/hr and a 25 week school year
There is an extra week or 3 days included in the school year to allow for personal days off if needed

REGISTRATION & SUPPLY FEE:$125/yr
*Due upon enrollment and Includes:
